Africa on my Mind

I have always had a heart for Africa. When I was a teenager I had even planned to move and live there. Sometimes, life intervenes. Plans change.

However, I still pray for and think of this continent often, so imagine my delight when I read that Shannon and Boomama were going to Africa with Compassion International to blog about the relief effort there.

Their upcoming trip, and this post from Knittin Chick got me thinking. I am going to get rid of the weather report on my sidebar (it was boring the heck out of me) and replace it with links to posts and site about Africa. Every week (or so) there will be two new links. Something to read, and something you can do.

Even if I am the only person who ever reads it, that will be enough. I need a reminder that there is a world outside of my warm little house. A world that often isn't warm, or cozy or even safe. The good news is, there are things I can do. I've just got to start doing them.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit jealous of the 2 invited to go to Uganda. Ever since I saw the film, Invisible Children, 1 1/2 years ago, Northern Uganda has been in my heart in an incredible way. In fact, I blogged a lot about it last year. I had signed up to go on a mission trip there this past June, but never earned the money to be able to go, which is why I feel a wee bit of jealousy. But, at the same time, I am so excited for those 2 gals, and for the fact that it gets the word about Uganda out there to others who may not know about it. So, that is wonderful. And I know I will go there someday. It's just on my heart way too much. :o)

I LOVE it. We have nothing whatsoever to complain about when we think about Africa.

I'm a huge fan of BBC Africa podcasts as they help to keep me posted on the news that is happening so I won't be so ignorant that I don't know about Kenya's and Guinea's situation.

That is awesome! I have often thought of adopting from there, but it's just not happening right now.

Thanks for keeping us updated about Africa and keeping them on our hearts.

Blessings,
Sue

So great to read your blog, it makes me miss you so much! Reading it feels just like talking to you though. I love it when people can write just like they talk (you know what I mean?) I am not very good at that skill. Anyways, I heard a rumor that you are going to be in FC soon. I hope it works out to have a visit with you! Make sure you bring your "sassy" gloves along as it tends to get a little chilly here!
