The Speed of Dark

This afternoon was one of those summer days when it is a felony to stay inside. So, we obeyed the siren song of the surf and sand and headed for the beach.

Our surf was a plastic pool and our sand the deck. We are rather land-locked so we learn to make do with what we've got.

However, mommy decided to pretend she was at the beach and do a little reading.

Stop laughing. I'm a dreamer. I like to dream big.

In an hour I had read 27 pages.

I am a woman of few talents. I cannot carry a tune, sew a hem or even cut paper in a straight line. However, I can read fast. Sideshow at the circus fast. Pre-kids I could knock off a Mary Higgins Clark novel in two hours.

Now between sippy cup emergencies, falling Popsicles, fights over Popsicles and uttering gems such as "please do NOT pee on my deck" I am a tad bit slower.

Turtles read faster than I am capable of. It isn't like I was reading War and Peace either. It was a Clive Cussler. (Told you I was a literary hillbilly).

Well, at least I got a tan. The boys haven't figured out how to interrupt that yet.

Why didn't you read "Pride and Prejudice?" It's no Clive Kussler, but....(grin) Sorry. You know I love to bug you....

PS- Don't ever pee on my deck.

I read like that, too! Or... I used to read that fast. It drives me crazy that I can't read a book in one sitting anymore. People look at me like I'm crazy when I say that, but it feels the same to me as walking away from a movie and then coming back to finish it later.

Oh, and I agree with Janet... please don't pee on my deck. :)

You are doing extremely well, HG. You have not succumbed to reading only magazines. Right now it is only a flutter of the imagination, but one day Spud and Sprout will join you with their noses in a not so heady 'Captain Underpants' or 'Geronimo Stilton' and you will once again READ. ....and only the mice will pee on your deck.

My book choices are made by flipping through it

1. Is the print a reasonable size? Usually so tired by the time I get to read that it can't be small print!!

2. Is it an 'easy read'? I am incapable of finishing a book with numerous plot twists and surprises, or amazing insights. I guess when you pick up and put down the book a bazillion times you simply end up rereading the same pages to figure out what in the world is going on.

3. Has someone already folded the corners to mark the page. (Yes it's a no-no, but bookmarks are Seth's favorite thing to pull out, and the other kids for some reason think it's funny to move it to another spot in the book) Poor me!!

So... must go pick up Green Eggs and Ham before someone else gets it!!

Love ya

27 pages in an hour is not bad with two underfoot! I'm impressed.

OK, I think I've figured out how to tell you about setting up the feed thing. I'm going to email you...

I apologize for writing this here, but of course I can't find your email!

I believe you may have your feed in "off" position. Try this: Go to your blogger dashboard & click on "layout" (or starting from layout view) choose the "Settings" tab. Click on the "Site Feed" tab. The first thing with a drop down box will be called: "Allow Blog Feeds." Your setting is probably "off." If you choose "Short" or "Full" that should work! Let me know. And I'll let you know if it changes on my sidebar with the feeds.

I can only imagine how the neighbors don't have to watch tv anymore. Entertainment on the next deck of the "un-Freedom of Peeing" version.

BTW, if you ever invite me to your beach, I'll wear my shoes and have antibacterial lotion nearby.
