Going Along Swimmingly

Tonight I had a plan. I was going to blog and bake. What can I say? My life is glamour ALL THE TIME!

However, my baby brother called and invited me out! Whoo hoo. I do not get out a lot so I was quite excited. Until I found out what we were going to be doing.

Swimming. For fun. Unless a shark is chasing me, I do not swim. I have exercise induced asthma and I manage it by NEVER EXERCISING. It's a policy that has worked well for me through out the years.

But I couldn't look weak in front of my kid brother and his preganat wife. Plus, at no time in the evening was I going to have to give a time out. It doesn't get much better than that!

So off we went. Just a note, if a triathlete asks you to go swimming, say no. Unless you like to be passed. A LOT. Even his 5 month pregnant wife kicked my trash.

However, I am happy to announce that I swam for 30 minutes. Although I'm not exactly sure that you can call what I did swimming. To be precise, I moved through the water (slower than molasses) for half an hour, only stopping to gasp every lap or so.

Flutterboards rule. So do hot tubs.

I am beginning to have a sinking feeling that I may be hurting tomorrow.

Yee haw.

Isn't exercise fun?

I considered training for a triathlon until I realized that you actually have to swim- not my version of it, which consists of lying on the chair watching my little girl swim.

My daddy used to do triathlons... like, he actually came in the top five for his age group... and on a regular basis.

Being lapped in the pool is humiliating. I totally agree. But there is nothing worse than someone passing you while you struggle to bike uphill, especially when said passer is on foot.

Hello Geeky!

Just dropped in to say I love your blog. Look forward to it lots, and promise to improve my own blogging habits.

P.S.
I happen to be a former competitive swimmer, so I must confess, I LOVE the water and that is the ONLY sport where I get to kick my husband's trash. Hang in there though, the best thing about swimming is how light we feel in the water, right?

Too bad about getting 'lapped' and left gasping for air after each lap. It's great that your sibling and wife want to spend time with their sister. I tell myself things like this when friends who are good golfers ask me to go golfing. They must REALLY want to spend time with me.
I agree... flutter boards rule! If only they allowed them in triathlons.

I just hopped over from Heather of the EO's site. Funny! One year ago I was there...gasping and struggling every lap. 11 months and a lot of laps later I completed my first tri with a 1.5K open water swim. It can be done! But only if you really want to...
